Our history
Foundation and early steps
In 1991, Sistemi Territoriali Srl was founded as a spin-off of the CNR of Pisa, laying the foundations in the geospatial and territorial solutions sector.
In its first decade of operation, the company has achieved several goals:
In 1994, Sistemi Territoriali became a Business Partner of Esri, the world leader in geographic information systems (GIS).
In 1996, the company embraced the Business Intelligence sector and formed a valuable partnership with SAS, opening up new growth opportunities.
In 1998, the company launched Sister IMS, an innovative Map Server that not only demonstrated the company’s technological ingenuity but also became a reference point in the industry.
Growth and innovation
Sistemi Territoriali continued its evolution, and in 2004, it launched the StatPortal product, one of the world’s first Geo Business Intelligence systems, once again demonstrating its potential.
In 2008, a multi-year collaboration began between Sistemi Territoriali and CINECA, opening further technological development horizons.
The company stood by many local administrations through various projects such as Structural Plans and Urban Regulations, creating services for professionals and citizens thanks to its consolidated experience in the GIS and BI sectors.
In collaboration with the Guglielmo Tagliacarne Institute and ECNEL, Atlases of Infrastructure, Districts and Trade were created, along with various Observatories, as study, dissemination, and decision-making tools.
New challenges and recognitions
In 2011, Sistemi Territoriali became a shareholder of GisItalia, further consolidating its position in the Geospatial Analytics sector. Additionally, it successfully introduced Stat Portal OpenData along with the DatiOpen.it portal, demonstrating constant commitment to data sharing and accessibility.
In 2012, DatiOpen.it was awarded the “OpenGeoData 2012 Web Application” award, and the company entered the Utilities market with the SITGas and SITAcqua products.
In 2015, ODINet was launched, later called the “Google of data,” focusing on Big Data, Open Data, Semantic Web, and Linked Data.
In 2016, I.Ter, the Geographic Cloud of the Campania Region that uses Sister’s StatPortal, won the 2016 Digital Agenda Award.
In 2018, SWMS: Smart Water Management System was presented, demonstrating our commitment to innovation and sustainability.
International agreements and successes
In 2021, the company won a framework agreement with the OECD for “Provision of digital solutions and competencies”.
In 2022, Almawave acquired 100% of Sistemi Territoriali, further strengthening the company’s position in the technological ecosystem. Also in the same year, Istat launched IstatData, the largest italian statistical dissemination portal, based on the StatKit solution.
In 2023, Sistemi Territoriali won a tender for the implementation of the African Information Highway project, a project for statistical dissemination by the African Development Bank involving all African states.
